Last year on 15 August an image of two children and a man hoisting the Tricolour in a flooded school went viral on social media. This year, on the same day, it’s back to haunt you. One of the boys in the image, nine-year-old Haydor Khan (on the left), failed to find a place in the final draft of National Register of Citizens, The Indian Express reported.

The others in the image, Haydor’s 10-year-old relative – Jiarul Khan, head teacher Tazen Sikder and assistant teacher Nripen Rabha made it to the final draft. In fact, everyone else from his family also made it to the list, except for Haydor.

I don’t understand anything about the NRC… I will do whatever the learned people in our area say. Everything was under water. The other children were scared to swim to the point where the national flag was being hoisted in our school. But Jiarul and I swam up to the spot, stood there and saluted our flag.
Haydor Khan told <a href="https://indianexpress.com/article/north-east-india/assam/one-boy-in-this-august-15-photo-is-out-of-assam-nrc-final-draft-5307231/lite/"><i>The Indian Express</i></a>

Haydor’s mother works as a domestic help, and everyone else in the family made it to the final draft. This picture was taken by Mizanur Rahman, another teacher at the Naskara lower primary school.
