LGBT Pride month is around the corner and Disney seems to embrace the inclusive spirit already.

In its theme parks in the United States, Disney is selling rainbow coloured Mickey Mouse ears in support of the LGBTQIA community. Named “Rainbow Love”, these multicoloured striped ears, paired with red caps, are being sold for $18 in stores at both Disneyland in California and Walt Disney World Park in Florida. Disney has always enjoyed a large following from the gay community across the globe.

Over the past few years, Disney’s portrayal of gay characters in movies has increased. However, they are yet to officially recognise the gay pride parade, which takes place in June in the US, and draws thousands of gay tourists all over the world. Hence, this initiative of Disney has grabbed eyeballs and is creating quite the buzz on social media.

Twitterati praised Disney’s attempts at inclusivity and responded with much enthusiasm.

There were others who felt otherwsie. They felt that this was nothing more than a marketing gimmick, and that Disney needs to do a lot more to support the gay community.
