A few days ago, a Chennai-based photographer, Vasanth Paul, claimed that he ‘saved’ a girl from getting gang raped in Chennai. He posted graphic images of the injuries that he sustained in the tussle; needless to say, his post went viral, garnering over 300,000 shares.

A report by NDTV however, claims that the emphatic credit given to the man is false and undeserved.

According to the news organisation, when the photographer was interrogated by Police, he was unable to reproduce details of the event. He had no concrete evidence and his reconstructions were incoherent. Further, he couldn’t give any clues to help the police track either the girl or the rapists.

Yet another case of misguided social media frenzy!
