On 5 April, a Jodhpur trial court convicted actor Salman Khan for hunting blackbucks in 1998 and sentenced him to five years’ imprisonment.

Salman was charged under Section 9, read with Section 51, of the Wildlife (Protection) Act, 1972, with the trial having dragged for 19 years in the Jodhpur trial court. Salman’s Hum Saath Saath Hain co-actors – namely Saif Ali Khan, Sonali Bendre, Tabu and Neelam – were also tried under these charges, but were acquitted by the court.

But, Salman was released from the Jodhpur Central Jail just after two days after a court granted him bail in the poaching case. Immediately after Bhai was out on bail, many of his fans celebrated outside his residence in Bandra, Mumbai.
