Rahul Subramanian is the latest comedian to be targeted for his stand-up. And what were his jokes about, you ask? DJs, yes disc jockeys. The comedy stand-up artist didn’t just receive hate comments on his video but also got ‘open threats’.

Rahul was performing in Gurugram when he was told some people were waiting to meet him outside the venue, he wrote in a Facebook post. He says the group were the same who had threatened him online.

Earlier too, comedians have been targeted for their choice of jokes. All India Bakchod’s roast format didn’t go down well with many and ended up with arrest warants against the organisers. Kunal Kamra was allegedly threatened for cracking jokes on the BJP and demonetisation.

A big part of observational comedy is looking at day-to-day professions, and giving a funny spin to it. Type any profession + standup on YouTube and you are likely to come across at least one stand-up comedy bit on that.

Twenty-nine-year-old Rahul says that he doesn’t mind any criticism and that he respects freedom of expression but threatening someone is unacceptable. His comic series called ‘Kal main Udega’ released on Amazon Prime and that’s when the problem started. As part of his act, he spoke about DJs and some couldn’t take the jokes and decided to troll and threaten him on social media.

According to Indian Express, Rahul was supposed to perform at Pune Comedy Festival which was cancelled because of the threats he was being subjected to. Others from the fraternity came out in support of Rahul Subramanian.

The comedian said that he’s cracked jokes on various other professions like engineers, air hostesses, bankers etc; but has never been subjected to such threats.
