The invite.

A neat, crisp ROYAL invite. The official one.

For the chosen few.

To attend Prince Harry and Meghan Markle’s wedding in Windsor.

Meanwhile,

In a land far, far, FAR away, a bunch of devoted desis, while munching on quiches and elbowing each other for the tiaras, were paying homage to the royal wedding.

While their gentle, post-colonial hearts fluttered with judicious restraint, much like the regal Union Jack flags in their hands, the whisky glasses tinkled in harmony, almost like a long, drawn-out opera.

Miles away from the royal wedding...

To the Royal Couple
With Love From India, an Old Friend

With love.

Dismissing my baser, rustic instincts, I landed at a ‘Royal Sundowner’ in the national capital late on 18 May.

Organised by desis.

And their benevolent hearts.

In honour of the royal wedding.

Away from the Karnataka Elections mayhem, an aam-admi’s daily grind and all things tropical, a swanky, South Delhi mall hosted our well-wishers celebrating Prince Harry and Meghan Markle’s wedding.

No Kohinoor, But this Works!

The tiaras offred to all guests.

Decked with a tiara (and perhaps a forgiving heart), the host, Reshma Punj, flitted about the lobby, attending to her guests, making sure the whiskey glasses were full and appetites whetted.

Angrez Chale Gaye?

Think about it.

Doori Sahi Jaaye Na...

Does it matter if they are miles away?

Clearly not.

Here’s how designer Rohit Bal would want Markle to dress at the wedding!

The Cause?

“A raffle ceremony (at the event) with proceeds going to the royal couple’s favoured charity.’’

Fair enough.

But...

Everyone left with a flag which had a Union Jack, with Prince Harry & Meghan Markle on one side and the logo of the sponsors on the other side.

The above was termed a token give-away’’ by the hosts.

Interesting.
