The past year has been turbulent across the world, especially so in India. At the beginning of 2020, the country witnessed widespread anti-CAA and anti-NRC protests. At JNU, at Delhi’s Shaheen Bagh, at Mumbai’s Gateway of India. This was followed by the COVID-19 pandemic that turned our lives upside down. Soon after, a celebrity’s unexpected death caused mayhem. And then, the death of a rape victim in Uttar Pradesh’s Hathras shook the country. Through all of this, one wonders – is this the world Mahatma Gandhi aspired for?
Let’s take a look at how India today is different from the India Gandhi imagined. Every year, on his birth and death anniversaries, we remember Mahatma Gandhi without fail, but do we remember his ideals and principles as well?
