I have scored 91.8% in CBSE class 12. I have got 10,600 in WBJEE. Should I go for B.Sc or B.Tech?
Tanyir Nasrin

Dear Nasrin,

First analyse which colleges you are eligible to apply to, based on the counseling process of the WBJEE. If you are happy with the choice of colleges available to you, then by all means go for B.Tech.

However, if the college options are not as per your liking, then you can look at B.Sc courses from good colleges.

See, at the end of the day, if you invest in a good college, you will get a good ROI. Don’t do B.Tech just for the sake of it. Must check for faculty credibility, placement history and talk to a few students of the college/s, to get an essence if it gives you what it promises.

Job prospect wise, definitely a B.Tech degree will hold you in good stead compared to a B.Sc degree. But then again, if the college is not good, the chances of getting placed in good companies will also be bleak!

I want to do Physics (Hons). I got 83.6% in class 12 and 84% in PCM. What are the Indian Universities offering Honours in physics with a good placement? Also, I wanted to know what are the career opportunities after physics honours?
Abhishek Dubey

Dear Abhishek,

Most universities in India offer B.Sc (Hons) Physics. You need to first and foremost decide upon the geography where you would like to pursue your course from.

Delhi University, Pune University, Calcutta University, Mumbai University, Pune University, Banaras Hindu University, are some of the reputed government universities offering B.Sc in Physics.

Career options after B.Sc Physics:

Before looking for a job, you should first assess what you like doing and what your transferable skills are. Physicists are usually found pursuing a career as engineers, scientists, or simulation folks in some capacity. Besides that one can become researcher, teacher, scientist, physicist, consulting & radiation oncologist, etc.

I have graduated this year. Where and how should I apply for B.Ed ? Also what is the procedure for applying in IGNOU for B.Ed?
Shivangi Das

Dear Shivangi,

Please specify your desired location to pursue a B.Ed course. There are colleges pan-India, so if you specify your location preference, it will become easier for us to suggest colleges to you.

Eligibility Criteria for B.Ed:

· Graduation degree from a recognised college/university

· Minimum marks: 50% (General) & 47.5% (SC, ST & OBC)

· If you fail to score 50% marks in graduation, then you should score minimum 50% in your Master’s degree and then apply for B.Ed.

Admission process for B.Ed in IGNOU:

ONLINE:

  • Log on to the official website of IGNOU
  • Insert name, DOB, photo & necessary documents
  • Pay fees online & keep a print-out of the application form

OFFLINE:

  • Obtain application form from the IGNOU official website or from regional centres by post.
  • After filling in the application, post it to the regional centres along with photocopies of valid documents along with a DD in favour of IGNOU payable at the city of the regional centre.
I have secured 85% marks in ISC. Will I be eligible for admission in DU for B.Sc in computer science and if not can you please suggest me the other universities or colleges that offer a BCA or BSC in computer science for which I would be eligible?
Anshu Singh

Dear Anshu,

You may stand a chance to get admission only, if, by the time the 3rd or 4th cut-off list is out, and there are seats still available. It’s a huge risk, in our opinion.

Apply to DU by all means (application is open right now), but also apply to non-DU colleges as well.
