Google Doodle Honours Vacuum Cleaner Inventor Hubert Cecil Booth
On his 147th birth anniversary, Google pays a tribute to Hubert Cecil Booth.
On 4 July, Google marked the 147th birth anniversary of Hubert Cecil Booth – the English engineer who gave the world one of its first ever power vaccum cleaners.
As per historical records, Booth was born in Gloucester in 1871; He attended school and college at his hometown, following which he pursued a a three-year course in civil and mechanical engineering.
After attaining a Diploma in Associateship (ACGI), he applied to the London-based Institute of Civil Engineers college to pursue civil engineering. In December 1982, he started working as a civil engineer with Maudslay Sons & Field, Lambeth, London.
From a Civil Engineer to the Inventor of First Powered Vacuum Cleaner
As per records, Booth created a large device, driven by an internal combustion engine based on suction with air pumped through a cloth filter.
Booth went on to establish the British Vacuum Cleaner and Engineering Company, via which he introduced vacuum cleaners to the UK market.
Booth passed away at the age of 83 in Croydon, England, on 14 January 1955.
