Denmark has not just one but two upcoming elections. With Danish general elections, and European parliament elections in the horizon, citizens cannot seem to avoid politics in their private time, even if they want to.

Joachim B. Olsen, a Danish politician from the Liberal Alliance, knows how to reach out to the voters. His recent election campaign was unapologetically put up on Pornhub asking voters to ‘vote for Jokke’.

Jokke being the nickname for Joachim and a similar-sounding Danish slang used here as a pun for masturbation. Reportedly, he paid $450 to put this ad across the Canadian pornographic website.

The idea might seem too explicit to be executed by a politician. However, Olsen himself has confirmed that it was his idea to get a good laugh and maybe some votes. Here is his Facebook post which apparently testifies to the same.

Apart from being an elected member of Parliament and bagging a silver medal for shot-put in Athens Olympics 2004, Olsen seems to be very creative in the marketing.

This advertisement put up on the leading porn site was meant to be a little joke apart from being an attempt to reach out to as many voters as possible.

Can Indian politicians afford to take such a step when they have their competition hunting for opportunities to shame them? Well for one, porn hub is banned in India but getting around it doesn’t require a computer science degree. The bigger question is does the Indian voter want to see their local Neta solicit votes on their screen when they are otherwise‘’occupied’’ on the internet? Thanks, but no thanks.
