While the idea of having a cocktail party and dishing out one concoction after the next may seem fun, it involves a lot more than just some pretty planning.

If you’re anything like me then you’re probably looking for the quickest and easiest mix – while still making an impression.

I’ve got your back with these 9 classic cocktail recipes that involve three ingredients (that’s right!) or less and are super easy to blend. Maximum applaud, minimal effort.

Whiskey-based

1. Old Fashioned

One of my favourites, a good Old-Fashioned can set everything right with the world, even when there’s nothing wrong with it.

2. Manhattan

As smooth and relaxing as NYC isn’t.

Gin-based

1. Negroni

This one isn’t for the faint-hearted. It’s straight-up power – but once you take a fancy to it, there’s no going back. (Also, perhaps the simplest recipe in the cocktail universe – equal parts of everything.)

2. Bee’s Knees

A cocktail that was created during the 1920s Prohibition in America, ‘Bee’s Knees’ was prohibition-era slang for ‘the best’. A lovely balance of sweet, sour and spirit!

Vodka-based

1. Dirty Martini

I’m partial to the gin version but a good, smooth vodka can do wonders to a martini. Just ask James Bond! Here’s the recipe for a Dirty Martini. Swap the vodka for gin if you prefer it that way, and skip the brine for a classic one.

2. Moscow Mule

No mules were harmed in the making of this one.

Tequila-based

Margarita

You don’t always have to shoot tequila! Make them by the pitcher and you’re good for the night.

(Tip: Rim half the glass with salt to give your guests an option of how they’d like to drink it. Just wet (with water) one half of the rim and dip it in salt spread on a small plate. You’ll notice that the salt only sticks to the wet part of the rim.)

Rum-based

1. Piña Colada

Nothing says ‘tropical holiday’ like a cold and frothy Piña Colada.

2. Daiquiri

Not all daiquiris are boozed-up icy slushes. A well-made one is a lesson in simplicity – good alcohol, zesty lime, some sweetness and voila!
