There’s no escaping it – the very Karan Johar-esque month of the year is here.

(We mean the 90s of course, before he went all dark and weird on us.)

This means it’s the season of candle-lit dinners, a lot of traffic to websites selling romantic getaways and a bunch of songs that you think were written for you and your beau! Valentine’s Day is upon us, and while the couples are busy looking for a quiet corner, singles are on the prowl too – Cupid or not!

As much as you cannot do without the gifts, the food on this day is equally important.

With a sexy twist.

Food on V-day needs to serve a much more, shall we say – steamy purpose; you need to look at setting the mood with just about every item. Look no further than the aphrodisiacs.

The most coveted group of food on this special day, aphrodisiacs are believed to be certain food items that help make you very – frisky. They’re libido-sparking, amour-enticing and can bring a whole new meaning to your sex life.

But does the science actually hold true?

Try some of the world’s best known aphrodisiacs and find out for yourself:

Strawberries

Avocado

Why you should eat/drink it: What could be more sensuous than sharing a creamy avocado with your loved one on Valentine’s Day? If the sensuous pear shape weren’t enough of a turn-on, avocados also score high on beta carotene, magnesium and Vitamin E (which is sometimes also called the ‘sex vitamin’).

How to eat/drink it: One of the most popular ways to enjoy an avocado is with a guacamole dip. This is prepared by mashing boiled avocados and adding chopped onions, garlic, tomato and salt to the mixture.

Red Wine

Why you should eat/drink it: If you thought raising a glass of wine to toast your special day was just a classic souvenir from Hollywood movies, you’re a little off the mark. Red wine is also an incredibly erotic drink. This drink contains resveratrol – an antioxidant that helps boost blood flow and improves circulation before and during intercourse – thus making your love life sizzle!

Reason enough to  reach out for that glass of wine this Valentine’s?

How to eat/drink it: You could opt for a red wine sangria that is a mix of red wine, brandy, orange liquor and sparkling water combined with finely chopped apples and sliced oranges.

Pair it with love foods and watch it double your sexappetite !

Chocolate contains phenylethylamine and serotonin – both of which are believed to evoke the same reaction in the body as falling in love.
