What’s better than a festival that openly encourages the consumption of bhang?

While you chew on that, picture to yourself the streets on Holi, beautifully tie-and-dyed – and amidst them, bhang sellers sitting like crown princes, selling their wares to thousands of hopefuls. Bhang sells more than liquor on this day! Little wonder then that Holi’s also called the ‘high holiday’ of India.

So how much do we really know about this ‘food item’?

Bhang comes from the cannabis plant and is made by crushing and soaking the leaves of this plant in water. Salt, black pepper and sugar are added to this mixture – which is then boiled and strained. The strained green liquid is the magical potion of bhang which is added to sweets and drinks. It’s what makes you wonky when consumed.

In the righteous spirit of Holi then, here are a number of desserts you can whip up with bhang, and take your celebrations a notch ‘higher’!
