2017’s Horrors: 3 Molestation Cases in 5 Days Since New Year’s Eve
Chilling incidents of molestation emerged from Bengaluru and Delhi since the eve of the new year.
The new year seems to have ushered in a dystopian reality for women across India. From the Benglauru’s mass molestation to a similar case in Delhi – several horrifying cases of harassment have emerged at the start of 2017.
Here’s a list of three cases of sexual assault that followed New Year’s Eve.
Mass Molestation by New Year Revellers, Bengaluru
Several cases of molestation were reported from MG Road, Brigade Road and Church Gate in Bengaluru on New Year’s Eve. A mob of revellers turned unruly and groped and physically assaulted dozens of women.
This happened despite authorities claiming that 1,500 cops were deployed that night. What’s more, police later refused to file complaints in the matter, citing lack of evidence.
Cops registered an FIR in the incident only three days later after a massive blacklash. They also arrested six people. Shockingly, Karnataka Home Minister G Parameswara blamed western clothing for the incident and said that “these kinds of things happen”.
Two Men Assault Woman Outside Her Residence, Bengaluru
At 2.30 am on Sunday night, a woman was assaulted by two men at a distance barely 50 metres from her residence. The entire incident was captured on CCTV camera and the chilling video eventually led to the arrest of four men.
The video shows a woman getting off a rickshaw and walking towards her house. Two men are seen getting off a scooter and blocking her path, getting off and then assaulting her.
The police reported the arrest of four men on Thursday. The second person seen in the video, who aided the prime accused in molesting the woman, has also been arrested by the police.
However, the most shocking part is the the mute by-standers. There are a few people clearly visible in the video who saw the woman get assaulted but did not help her.
Several Men Molest a Girl in North Campus, Delhi
Delhi soon followed suit and reported its own case of a mob molesting a girl in the Mukherjee Nagar area of North Delhi.
The incident took place around 12:30 am on Saturday night when cops standing at a barricade saw a mob trying to grab a female who was riding pillion on a motorcycle.
There was a crowd of about 200 drunk men who tried to stop the vehicle and grab the girl. When the policemen tried to stop the mob, they turned against them, attacking and injuring four police personnel.
