Netflix has announced a partnership with Karan Johar’s digital content studio Dharmatic Entertainment to create new fiction and non-fiction series and films exclusively for Netflix. Karan Johar took to Twitter to share the news. “Netflix is about to get Dharmatic! So excited about our exclusive collaboration with NETFLIX! We are creatively aligned to produce original feature films & series (fiction & non-fiction)...it’s going to be P.H.A.T!,” the filmmaker wrote.
Karan Johar also said in a statement Netflix has provided a fearless space for creators. “Netflix is armed with a unique creative freedom and instantaneous global reach. I am very excited about the projects that are already being developed and the limitless possibilities ahead. To create universal stories from India that the world discovers is an incredible opportunity”, he added.
Bela Bajaria, VP, International Originals, Netflix, said, “I am incredibly excited about our partnership with Karan Johar, who is one of India’s greatest modern storytellers. Johar and Dharmatic Entertainment will have all the creative freedom and support they need to create content.”
In the past, Netflix has signed content deals with Shah Rukh Khan’s Red Chillies Entertainment for films and web series and Aamir Khan Productions for his films. But this exclusive arrangement is the first of its kind.
