Actor Nawazuddin Siddiqui sat down with The Quint to talk about his latest release Costao, based on the life of a Goa customs officer Costao Fernandes who played a crucial role in tackling gold smuggling in the city.

Talking about the role, the actor said, “If I look at the kind of response I’m getting for the film, in a way, this movie got added to the list of the kind of movies I like because his character was so interesting. It was so fun to play the character that, after a long time, I felt like I was playing the kind of characters I should be playing.”

“The real-life Costao never made any compromises; he even had to separate from his family. He was definitely sad about that but I think he’s happy that he never let his honesty go,” the actor further said.

“When you gain money or fame by doing something wrong, you won’t be able to face yourself. Even if someone else doesn’t know, you know that you haven’t achieved those things the right away. And it doesn’t even last very long.”
