The film explores Amay (Avinash Tiwary) and his father’s (Irani) fraught relationship, especially after they're forced to move in together for 48 hours after Amay’s mother’s demise.
The trailer also features Shreya Chaudhary, who plays Amay’s partner Zara, and Puja Sarup. Watch the trailer here:
From the father’s disapproval of the location of his son’s flat and to a disagreement about the latter's work, the ‘Mehta Boys’ find it difficult to see eye-to-eye about most things but the slice-of-life film still finds moments of tenderness between the two.
“The relationship between a father and son is one of the most complex and emotionally charged dynamics. With this film, I wanted to delve into how the bond between two people who deeply care for each other can be tested by time, misunderstandings, and unresolved issues. It is a story that has stayed with me for years,” Irani said in a statement.
Irani shares writing credits for the film with Academy Award-winner Alexander Dinelaris. The film is produced by Boman Irani, Danesh Irani, Vikesh Bhutani and Shujaat Saudagar under the banner of Irani Movietone LLP in association with Chalkboard Entertainment LLP.
The Mehta Boys is slated for release on 7 February on Amazon Prime Video.
