According to a report on an entertainment news website, R Madhavan is set to replace Abhishek Bachchan in a sequel to the 2005 hit Bunty Aur Babli, which also starred Rani Mukerji and Amitabh Bachchan.

News of the sequel first floated around in May, when it was reported that Abhishek, Rani and original director Shaad Ali were expected to return. However, since then the film has undergone a few changes. First, Shaad Ali left the project which is being called Bunty Aur Babli 2.0. Next Abhishek also bowed out of the movie.

While Saif Ali Khan was in talks for the main lead, Bollywood Hungama now reports that R Madhavan has been finally cast in the role. Gully Boy breakout star Siddhant Chaturvedi and debutante Sharvari Wagh will also join the sequel.

This is what a source told the website.

“After Saif informed the makers that he wanted to step out of <b>Bunty Aur Babli 2.0</b>, they were on lookout for a suitable actor, and Madhavan fit the bill perfectly. He loved the script, and came on board immediately. The film went on floors last week,”

Stepping into the director’s shoes is Varun V Sharma, who has assisted Shaad and Ali Abbas Zafar. He also wrote the script for Salman Khan’s Bharat.

Incidently, Abhishek is replacing R Madhavan as the main antagonist in Amazon Prime’s Breathe season 2. This will be the Manmarziyaan star’s web debut. Meanwhile, Rani will next be seen on the big screen in another sequel Mardaani 2.
