The terror organisation Islamic State of Iraq and Syria (ISIS) has published a photo of US Army Captain Humayun Khan’s tombstone, calling him an ‘apostate’. Capt Khan’s father Khizr Khan’s speech, with his wife, Ghazala Khan, by his side, has pushed them into the limelight since last week along with their war of words with the US Republican Party’s presidential nominee Donald Trump.

Khizr Khan spoke at the Democratic National Convention (DNC) about their son who died in a 2004 bomb attack in Iraq. In his speech, he also hit out at Trump for his proposed policy of banning the entry of Muslims into the country.

Donald Trump tweeted that Mr Khan had “viciously attacked” him at the Democratic Convention and said that Captain Humayun Khan was a hero but the issue is not him but radical Islamic terror.

He later also questioned why Ghazala Khan said nothing during her husband’s speech, even hinting that she may not have been “allowed” to speak her mind. Khan responded to this insinuation in an op-ed in The Washington Post.

ISIS, which also took note of Captain Khan after the speech, mentioned him in the latest issue of their glossy magazine Dabiq. The terror group published a photo of his tombstone in Arlington National Cemetery with the caption, “Beware of dying as an apostate”.

The image was part of an article titled ‘Words of Sincere Advice’ by an unidentified ‘American Convert in the Islamic State’. The image implies that ISIS believes Captain Humayun Khan was a false Muslim who may have fallen to the calls of “so-called ‘imams’ and ‘scholars’ calling to alliances against Islam with the disbelievers.”

While Capt Khan’s family battles Trump on the one hand, ISIS has taken to defaming his legacy on the other.
