The much awaited ‘Apple Watch’ finally debuted last week midst much hype. But igeeks were NOT impressed. The Quint brings you four reasons to give the Apple Watch a miss -
#1 No GPS or Cellular Connectivity
Yes, you heard that right. While the watch has Wi-Fi and Bluetooth, it lacks GPS or cellular connectivity. To many, especially athletes, that’s a deal breaker. It needs to be tethered to an iPhone to access the Internet, map your run, or to notify you about e-mail. So on long runs you will have to carry your iphoneas well. Not nice.
#2 Confusing and Clumsy
Stephen Pulvirent of Bloomberg says that on the first use, the watch felt a bit confusing and clumsy -
“Sometimes it seems to do one thing; at other times, the opposite. The display doesn’t use the familiar pinch-to-zoom gesture used on the iPhone and it seems like the interplay between tapping, swiping, and turning the crown will take some getting used to.”
#3 Not Immediately Intuitive
According to Verge’s Nilay Patel, the watch has both, the Digital Crown and the communications button next to each other on the side. He says that he found himself pressing one or both several times, without knowing which one would take him to the home screen, or back out of an app, or launch a feature.
#4 Trying to do Too Much
Jason Hiner of Zdnet says the Apple Watch is too ambitious and tries to get there all at once. In the process it departs from Apple’s core religion i.e. simplicity and ease of use.
