Google’s New Emojis Are Here to Address Gender Inequality

Google employees have designed 13 emoji to represent women at work after a campaign to redress the gender balance.

Even in the world of emojis, women have been confined to the roles of bride, princess, and dancer. While there’s a male construction worker and a cop, women are either getting a haircut or getting their nails painted.

With a plan to rectify the imbalance, four of Google’s employees have proposed 13 new emojis to “highlight the diversity of women’s careers”. If approved by Unicode Consortium, emoji keyboards could eventually include these by the end of 2017.
