BMW has country-specific models across its segment and for the first time, we get to see their 1 Series in a sedan avatar. Sadly, the automaker has decided that only consumers in China need their new hot wheels, which means no chances of it coming over to the Indian shores.

The car was first showcased at the Guangzhou Motor Show 2015 and BMW reiterates that the 1 Series originates from the Concept Compact sedan which was on display at the event. BMW claims to have tailor made the 1 Series for consumers in China, keeping their driving habits in mind. The sedan is also being locally produced in China.

It is also BMW’s first ever vehicle to get front-wheel drive platform. The sedan is expected to be available in up to 2-litre four-cylinder turbo engine. The design of the 1 Series borrows its style from the existing sedan range of BMW, with a definite sporty appeal, highlighted by the sharp features of the front headlights.

In the real world, the BMW 1 Series could give a tough fight to the Mercedes-Benz CLA and the Audi A3 sedan.

If one takes a look at the existing trends in India, BMW could have done worse than bringing this 1 Series over to India, which is buzzing with craze for sub-category sedan and heavy-duty SUVs fitting into their urban routine.
