Huawei has been quite aggressive in the budget and mid-range segments in India. After a slew of launches in the Honor and Honor Holly series, the Chinese smartphone maker has just launched Honor 5C. The smartphone is priced at Rs. 10,990 and looks impressive on paper. But how’s it in flesh... err metal, we find out.

What’s Good?

Huawei Honor 5C may carry a generic design on the front, flip it around and it looks every bit a premium device. The brushed metal back with rounded sides feel smooth and good to hold. The 5.2-inch Full-HD display is bright and vivid for your regular gameplay and videos.

The smartphone is powered by a Kirin 650 64-bit octa-core processor, paired with a 2 GB RAM. The performance feels smooth with no apparent lags in switching applications or running games.

A 3,000 mAh battery backs you on this one. It surprisingly lasted for two good days of active usage. I credit that to the efficient power management of the processor, along with Android Marshmallow’s Doze function.

The 13-megapixel rear and 8-megapixel front shooter combo are quick with photos and capture decent details, even in low-light conditions. Full HD video recording is supported by both the cameras.

What’s Bad?

Huawei Honor 5C’s screen is a smudge magnet. With so many fingerprints visible on the screen, it almost looks like a crime investigation scene. Okay, slight exaggeration, but you get the drift.

The fingerprint scanner on the other side felt a bit slow on our review device. It took almost a second to unlock my device from the sleeping state.

Why Buy It?

Honor 5C faces an intense competition from the segment it’s launched in, but head-to-head, it’s primary duel lies with Xiaomi’s Redmi Note 3. Though Redmi Note 3 wins in areas such as screen size, battery life and the camera optics, Honor 5C has its compact size and breezy performance going for it.

Buy Huawei Honor 5C if you’re looking for a decently performing phone which fits your pocket – both in price, and size.
