We all know what Ringing Bells Freedom 251 was. The Noida-based company did promise to give an affordable smartphone at Rs 251 and failed to deliver.

Now, there’s a new Jaipur-based company called Docoss Multimedia Private limited that has come out with a smartphone at Rs 888.

There is a huge demand in India for low-cost smartphones with companies like Datawind also trying to enter this space.

But Docoss promises to provide a smartphone called Docoss X1 at Rs 888 and all you have to do is register for it.

The company is not even asking for a booking amount for this phone. All you need to do is log on to their website and register. If it’s not accessible you can also book the phone via an SMS.

The phone offers decent entry-level smartphone specs as well. The Docoss X1 comes with a capacitive 4-inch IPS display, a 0.3 MP front camera and a 2 MP back camera. The X1 is a dual SIM smartphone with 1GB RAM and a 4GB internal storage.

The processor running on the phone is not disclosed by the company. The specs on the phone are not that great but it will be an affordable smartphone for sure, only if it is actually delivered to the customer.

We’ve booked one ourselves and are hoping to actually see whether the company will be able to deliver the phone in May 2016.

The only good part about Docoss Multimedia is that the company is not asking for a booking amount for the phone. It’s selling the phone on cash on delivery basis.

So, if they are able to actually deliver the phone it should be a step in the right direction for an economical smartphone in the country.

If we ever get our hands on the phone, we’ll be getting you more on the Docoss X1 on The Quint.
