The CES 2016 will showcase a lot of virtual reality (VR) tech in 2016. The stage for the first year of consumer-ready virtual reality is set and HTC wants to be a part of it with its VR headset Vive.
The second generation of the Vive Developer Kit, that HTC will showcase, features some unique changes from the highly acclaimed first generation Developer Kit of the HTC Vive.
HTC plans to launch the Vive in April 2016.
The headset’s upgrades include a front-facing camera, so that the viewer can see the objects in the room and avoid collisions while wearing the VR headset. The company has also redesigned the headset and strap for user comfort and there will be interchangeable foam inserts and “nose gaskets” for a perfect fit on the wearers face.
The display has also been made brighter and hand-held controllers are also updated with textured buttons, grip pads and softer edges.
HTC has been tight -lipped about the pricing of the HTC Vive but has hinted that the cost will be a barrier in making this product for the masses.
HTC plans to take on this CES 2016 at Las Vegas by storm with individual showcases as well as with partners. Virtuix Omini a first-of-its-kind active virtual reality motion platform will be using the HTC Vive at the international consumer tech show. It’s an active VR, where your actions in the virtual world are controlled by first-person navigation like walking or running, creates an unprecedented sense of immersion that cannot be experienced sitting down.
Intel will also be hosting live Vive performances in their show floor booth. Even Dassault Systemes will feature their 3D Dream Sketcher experience which allows consumers to create a product using CAD design in a virtual space using an HTC Vive.
