If there is one thing that Motorola will never do is pile up its stock with varied models of Moto phones. But looks like we got it wrong. The company announced its Moto G Turbo recently, making it the umpteen Moto phone to be launched in 2015.
Moto G Turbo is basically an upgraded version of the Moto G (2015), which can be bought for Rs 11,999. Priced at Rs 14,999 Motorola Moto G Turbo gets a faster processor, IP57 surety that makes it immune to water-related mishaps, and a fast-charging support. For this price, you also have options like Lenovo Vibe P1, and OnePlus X.

What’s Good?
Motorola Moto G Turbo is a phone that the company would have never made last year. In 2015, Motorola has delivered products that may have been good for 2014, but right now, people have gotten used to more. G Turbo benefits from a snappy octa-core performer that holds its fort with ease. Multi-tasking your way around the G Turbo will never be an issue, unless you plan to go overboard with this mid-range device.
We highly expected IP57 certification to be part of the Moto G’s armour, instead Motorola decided to bide its time and introduce the Moto G Turbo with the water-proofing feature. G Turbo can be submerged in water for up to 15 minutes, and will still work. But that doesn’t mean you should play around to see if it can walk the talk. We tried it, and the results are in line with the company claims.
Motorola has found the right mix of customising Android, and yet retain its true vanilla experience. The performance is much akin to previous Moto devices and it’s good to see hardware manufacturers keeping a close eye on how the software fares for a change.
Motorola’s Turbo connotation also carries the strength of a 2470mAh battery that manages to last for a day. In addition to that, you get turbo charger out-of-box that is quicker than the charger bundled with this year’s Moto G.
What’s Bad?
For 15K we expect a phone with full-HD resolution display these days, and brands like Lenovo, Yu have spoilt us for good. Moto G Turbo could have at least managed to upgrade to FHD display. Instead, we’re stuck with HD resolution that is not that bad but for this price.
The other thing about Moto G Turbo that’s worth pointing out is the similarity between the G Turbo and Moto G. Place them together and you’ll find it hard to call them right. G Turbo has no change in terms of looks or design. The no-fuss approach from Motorola has been taken rather seriously, which could have been avoided.
In addition to the design of Moto G Turbo, the phone’s camera is the same as that of Moto G (2015). The 13-megapixel snapper is good in daylight, but not-so-good with low-light shooting. The image detailing is at par with what we told you about the Moto G (2015) in our review.
Why Buy It?
Motorola Moto G Turbo has features that should have been made available with the Moto G in first place. For Rs 14,999, asking buyers to opt for an upgrade with faster processor, water-proof resistance (to some extent) and fast-charging support seems like a stretch.
We understand that people are looking for experience and Motorola does that quite well. But at what about the cost? The cameras are no match for Xiaomi Mi4i or the Lenovo Vibe P1, and they cost almost the same.
Moto G Turbo falls in line with what Motorola does the best, and if only they could have managed to deliver more improvements on the phone, we would have given you a go-ahead for it.
