Huawei is celebrating 2 years of its brand Honor and the next leap that the telecom giant wants to take is in the Internet of Things (IoT) space. Huawei showcased its partnership with Haier and Broadlink for smart appliances at the celebration event held at their headquarters in Shenzhen, China.
The company also announced its new Lite OS SDK that will be open to every company to develop new IoT gadgets and gizmos.
Huawei announced partnerships with Haier and Broadlink for connected appliances and also announced that its new Lite OS SDK will be open for all developers. Along with the new OS SDK, the company has also announced a new Hi-Link standard for connected smart gadgets.
Hi-Link breaks away from the clutter of a closed ecosystem that companies like Apple and Samsung are known for. A Hi-Link inside gadget will understand all connected device languages and will also communicate with different gadgets in a standardised language.
Keeping to the theme of IoT, the company has also announced new WiFi routers with Hi-Link.
George Zhao, President, Huawei Honor Brand also announced at the keynote that the company will be rolling out both the platforms for partners and developers in the second quarter of 2016. He added that the company will continue to do what it does best and not start making air purifiers for the sake of it.
The company is also looking forward to collaborating with Indian manufacturers to make smart homes and smart cities catch up to the boom that the IoT industry will see in the next couple of years.
Huawei had also launched its smartphone, the Honor 7i, in China earlier this year and the company plans to bring this phone to India in the last quarter of 2015.
