What’s Good?

The Motorola Moto X Play has almost everything going for it. The phone is elegantly designed; it looks and feels rugged. The curved back fits in your palm perfectly and the swappable back panels help your phone look different from the crowd. The phone has the best of the Moto E and Moto G as well as a bit more.

The Moto X Play has just the right screen size of 5.5-inches. It’s not an AMOLED display but you don’t feel the need for one. The Full HD LCD display churns out 1080x1920 pixels resolution and a pixel density of 403ppi.

The colour balance is just perfect and the display is not very reflective under bright light. The phone also gives you two colour modes – normal and vibrant. It easily beats its rivals like the OnePlus One, OnePlus 2 and the Zenfones from Asus.

The Moto X Play is a dual-SIM phone with 4G LTE compatibility which is a must for today’s smartphones. It comes with stock Android 5.1.1 Lollipop out-of-the-box and the experience is lag free and neat. You don’t need all the bloatware and skins that many manufacturers try to push on their smartphones. Motorola has loaded the Moto X Play with an active display that works amazingly well and the touch-less control is also relatively easy to use.

The Moto X Play comes with a super snapper for a mid-budget android smartphone. The 21-megapixel rear camera is super fast while focusing and the images come out really crisp and sharp. This puts the camera on the OnePlus One and the OnePlus 2 to shame.

The rear camera can shoot 1080p videos @30fps and 540p slow motion videos. There’s no 4K recording on this one.

The front camera also gives you decent selfies both in low-light and good light conditions.

The Moto X Play comes with a tried and tested Qualcomm octa-core processor clocked at 1.7GHz. The processor is coupled with an Adreno 405 GPU and 2GB RAM. It’s almost standard for a mid-range android smartphone to have such processing power.

The 2GB of RAM is well managed and proves that you don’t need 4GB RAM on your smartphones like the OnePlus 2 or the Asus Zenfone 2 as the phone can easily handle heavy graphic games and multitasking.

The massive 3,630mAh Li-Ion non-removable battery claims to have a battery backup of 30 hours. It lasted for 24 hours which is good enough for a modern day mid-range smartphone.

The phone also has the same water resistant qualities as seen on the Moto G 3rd Gen.

The Motorola Moto X Play has everything going for it; it’s a near-perfect smartphone to buy. But, we don’t understand the 16GB version of the phone: The standard version should have been the 32GB storage variant.

We really don’t have anything to complain about when it comes to the Moto X Play. It’s a near perfect safe smartphone to buy for which you don’t need any invite.

It has a perfect display, a good fast camera, a trustworthy processor and to top it all off, it DOES NOT HEAT UP.

The Moto X Play is the best phone to buy right now under Rs 20,000 in India. Period.
