Congress Rebels Seek to Form Government in Arunachal Pradesh

Congress rebels met Arunachal Pradesh governor to stake claim to form state government amid political crisis.

The dissident Congress faction in Arunachal Pradesh led by former finance minister Kalikho Pul, on Monday, met Governor JP Rajkhowa and staked a claim to form the government in the state, 21 days after President’s Rule was imposed, according to The Indian Express.

While Pul, along with 18 other Congress legislators submitted a memorandum to Rajkhowa in Itanagar, staking claim to form the government, another group of five Congress MLAs led by former minister Chowna Mein also submitted a memorandum extending support to Pul.

The 11-member BJP legislature party and two Independent MLAs also submitted similar memorandums, pledging support to Pul.

Meanwhile, the deposed CM, Nabam Tuki, whose government was dismissed, reiterated that any move to invite Pul to form a government would not only violate the Constitution but also amount to be a contempt of court, as the Supreme Court is still hearing the case of imposition of President’s Rule in the state.
