At the height of violence in the Gujarat riots, an angry mob of almost 20,000 attacked Gulbarg Society – a predominantly Muslim society – in Ahmedabad, killing 69 people including former Congress lawmaker Ehsan Jafri.

Fourteen years later, a special court in Ahmedabad acquitted 36 of the 66 accused in the Gulbarg Society massacre case, while 24 have been convicted.
