After Assam, Bihar is the second state to pass the GST (Goods and Services Tax) Constitutional Amendment Bill.
The Bihar government had called for a Special Assembly session on 16 August to discuss the Goods and Services Tax Bill. The Union Government is keen for the other 15 states to ratify the Bill to enable a rollout of GST by 1 April 2017.
Bijendra Prasad Yadav, State Minister for Commercial Tax was supposed to introduce the Bill in the Assembly.
Assam recently ratified the amendment to introduce the tax reform that was passed by Parliament. The Bill requires ratification by at least of half the state legislatures for it to be approved before it goes to the President for his assent.
GST is considered to be the biggest tax reform in the country that seeks to convert India into a single tax regime.
