Here’s how an innocuous forward can get you into serious trouble with the BJP:

Raghav Chopra, a journalist with CNN-IBN, tweeted an image of Modi appearing to touch the feet of a Saudi king. His tweet which has now been deleted asked “Will someone tell what’s Modi ji doing in Saudi? Can’t be what it looks like surely.”

BJP MP Maheish Girri was among the first to raise a furore on Twitter. He even posted the original photograph which shows Modi reaching out to touch Advani’s feet as a mark of respect.

The BJP has now filed a complaint against the the journalist for “misleading general public by fake photographs image” (sic).

Minister of State, I&B was quick on the uptake and tweeted to his ministry’s official account to review the violations by Raghav Chopra.

Meanwhile, trolls exploded on Raghav Chopra’s timeline as he tried to clarify that he was only questioning the authenticity of the image, not circulating it to attack the Prime Minister.

But had to apologise when he realised the gravity of the situation.

Raghav Chopra’s apology was followed by one from his organisation.

The picture that was tweeted by the journalist was actually a Photoshopped image that went viral and was even picked up by WikiNewsIndia earlier this year.

The above tweet that talks about the Photoshopped photo dates as far back as 5 December 2015.
