Human Resources Development minister Smriti Irani has been receiving serious flak for getting her ‘facts’ wrong in the Rohith Vemula suicide case. This comes after a doctor’s report emerged, certifying Rohith’s death at 7:30 pm the same night.

Social media reactions have strongly questioned her response in Parliament, wondering whether she knowingly misled the public.

Addressing Parliament on the Rohith Vemula suicide case, Smriti Irani on Wednesday claimed that the Telangana police had told the state High Court that no doctor had been allowed near Rohith’s body. She said that no doctor had gone near his body until 6.30 am the next day.

The documents available with The News Minute show that this claim was inaccurate.

Security officials found the body in NRS hostel room. I got a call around 7:20 pm and I rushed to the hostel to examine the body. By the time I reached the body was removed from the ceiling fan. Within 10 minutes we declared him dead. I also informed the VC immediately. He asked me whether there was any possibility of reviving Rohith. I was there till 3 am that day.
