SC & ST (Prevention of Atrocities) Bill Passed in RS

In a landmark move, the Rajya Sabha passed the SC & ST (Prevention of Atrocities) Bill pretty peacefully. Deputy Chairman of the Rajya Sabha Sabha PJ Kurien appreciated the unanimous way the bill was discussed. This was among the other two bills which were passed unanimously by the Higher House within minutes.

The Scheduled Castes and the Scheduled Tribes (Prevention of Atrocities) Amendment Bill, 2014 aims to prohibit the commission of offences against members of the Scheduled Castes and Scheduled Tribes (SCs and STs) and provides for establishing special courts for the trial of such offences and the rehabilitation of victims.

Meanwhile, the Rajya Sabha decides to discuss Juvenile Justice Bill tomorrow as it was not listed for today.

Lok Sabha Remains Agitated Over Jaitley Issue

Congress MP and former MoS for Civil Aviation KC Venugopal raised the DDCA issue, which Union Finance Minister Arun Jaitley stood up to clarify.

Delhi did not have a stadium. It had a maidan. During my tenure at the DDCA, we considered it necessary to build a stadium in the city. At that time BCCI used to grant Rs 4 crore as infrastructure subsidy. We had to raise money. All allegations against me are wrong and baseless.
Arun Jaitley

Jaitley Speaks Out

  • Please sit down; facts will be extremely inconvenient
  • In 114 crore, a stadium of 42,000 capacity was made. When Congress was in power JLN stadium was renovated for 900 crore
  • All these allegations are baseless and devoid of truth

BJP MP Kirti Azad who conducted a press conference on Sunday over DDCA issue was next to speak.

Yes the stadium was made in 114 crore, but we know what the condition of the stadium is right now. There should be CBI inquiry in the DDCA case. Had the government not wanted to fight against corruption, it would not have sent the CBI notice (to Vyapam scam whistle-blower Prashant Pandey) on October 23. Congress members can demand for a SIT to investigate the DDCA scam so that the matter gets over soon.
