On October 9, 2015, Choti Nirbhaya, a four-year-old child was raped by a man who was known to her family. She was lured to a desolate spot by the perpetrator, not far from her home, with the promise of ‘sweets’. The brutal assault that followed caused serious injuries. Her family needed financial support to take care of her education and ensure that her future is stable.

The child has undergone a series of surgeries at New Delhi’s Safdarjung Hospital, her recovery, however, will be a long and slow process.
The doctors have told her father that she will not be able to bear a child as an adult.
Choti Nirbhaya’s treatment at Safdarjung Hospital was at government expense. But at the moment, with both parents needed at their daughter’s side, their income has dropped to zero.
The family is also worried about the four-year-old’s future. They are keen to ensure that she’s educated and emerges as a self-sufficient adult.
After spending almost a month in a hospital, she finds it difficult to stay in bed. All she wants to do is to play with her five-year-old sister – who, incidentally, has stopped going to school after the fateful incident.
Her father says the little one gets scared in the presence of a stranger.

Chhoti Nirbhaya Needs Your Help
Choti Nirbhaya comes from an extremely poor family. They live in a slum in New Delhi’s Keshav Puram area.
Her father is a daily wage labourer, working as a painter. Her mother works as a domestic help. Their income supports the girl’s grandparents, two physically disabled uncles and her two siblings.
Nirbhaya, the December 13 gangrape victim’s parents share the pain of Chhoti Nirbhaya’s parents.
The little one’s medical condition is stable now. But she will be on medication for the next few months – till the perineal tear that she is suffering repairs.
According to a Delhi government report, the child is in trauma and needs regular counselling.
Chhoti Nirbhaya’s story has struck a chord with personalities of various fields. Besides singer Anupam Roy, actor Raveena Tondon, director Mahesh Bhatt, musician Raghu Ram, and TV anchor Richa Anirudh appeal our readers, to help Chhoti Nirbhaya.
The Quint Impact

The government has announced a compensation of Rs 3 lakh for the family.
A senior official in the Ministry of Women and Child Development has also promised The Quint that the ministry will try to help Chhoti Nirbhaya.
