The Five-Year Plan Unfolds

In 2011, Bengaluru executive M G Gokul sees his college sweetheart Payel (name changed) on Facebook after four years. They get back in touch. Both of them are married to separate people but there are still some sparks between the two. Perhaps coincidentally, both the marriages face troubled waters.

While Gokul started hatching a plan to win back Payel’s affections, she was unaware of his intentions. Come 2015, the man is caught for what can be called as a prank call but delving deep revealed something which can be pretty shocking. This was the last step of Gokul’s master plan spanning five years to settle down with his love.

MG Gokul and Payel’s relationship started during college in Thrissur, Kerala in 2002. The affair lasted till 2007 until their engineering course finished. Since she was a Christian, their families did not allow them to get married to each other. Both went on with their separate lives as Gokul moved to Delhi and Payel shifted to Thiruchirapally.

Gokul’s married life was on rocks with his odd office-timings. Anuradha, his wife, was spiritual and so when Gokul approaches her masquerading as a godman from the Shirdi Saibaba sect, she confesses to having an affair. The ‘godman’ asks her to end the affair, to which she obliges but only to find three months later that she was back with him. After failing to convince her for the first time, Gokul now approaches Anuradha pretending to be a female spiritual guide and astrologer.

After winning her trust, the female guru asks Anuradha to mail intimate photos after which a puja will be conducted to reduce Gokul to a mute spectator. She mailed her nude photographs with her boyfriend which Gokul used as an evidence to win his retired SP father-in-law’s support. After this, Gokul takes a transfer to Bengaluru from Delhi to be close to Payel. Gokul moves in with his wife and children to the same apartment complex where Payel lived.

In the final stage of his plan, Gokul gets two numbers. With one, he contacts his lover as a church minister and using another he contacted Jose as an ISIS militant. While Payel was asked to seek a divorce, the husband was given death threats.

On June 27, Gokul asks Anuradha to start consuming alcohol heavily for the puja which was to unite her with her lover. When she was inebriated, Gokul hit her thrice on her head using a metal Ganesha idol.

Gokul acquires photocopies of Saju’s ID cards and obtain a SIM card under the latter’s name. On Saturday, Gokul made calls from this number to Delhi and Bengaluru airports, with hoax bomb threats. As per his plans, police initially nabbed Saju for the crime.

However, further into the investigation, cops found that the location of the towers and that of Saju’s husband did not match. Also a probe on Saju’s background ruled out any possibility of him being an IS terrorist.
