1. Muzaffarnagar: Two Years After Riots, FIR Against 12 for Attacking Dalit Family

The police lodged an FIR against 12 Muslims on Saturday, for allegedly attacking a Dalit family during communal riots that took place in Muzaffarnagar’s Shamli area on September 3, 2013. The case has been lodged following a direction from the National Human Rights Commission (NHRC).

After the case was registered, the accused named in the FIR allegedly threatened the Dalit family with dire consequences if they did not withdraw the case.

2. Patidar Quota: Two ATMs Burnt, Rs 48 Lakh Turned to Ashes

Three more police complaints related to the Patidar riots were lodged at different police stations in Surat, of which one was about two ATMs loaded with Rs 48.31 lakh cash being burnt by a mob in Sarthana. Other complaints were with regard to damaged Bus Rapid Transit System properties in Ahmedabad.

3. Jewellery, Cash, Shares: IAS Officer, Son Face Investigation in Karnataka Lokayukta Scam

The 21-year-old son of a senior Karnataka IAS officer is under the Income Tax scanner over recovery of crores in cash and jewellery from an empty flat in north Bengaluru. He was a director of the firm in whose name the flat is registered.

The abrupt transactions in the firm’s account are also of interest, as Kapil Mohan is suspected to have been among senior IAS officers targeted for bribes between February and April 2015.

4. Delhi Girl Allegedly Gangraped by 10 in Jaipur Hotel, 6 Arrested

A 17-year-old Delhi girl was allegedly gangraped by 10 people in a hotel in Jaipur last week. The girl was allegedly taken to Jaipur on the pretext of a job by a married couple who lived in her neighbourhood. Police said six people including the couple have been arrested, while a search is on to nab the rest.

5. Shutdown in Kashmir Valley, Separatists, Trade Body Leaders Arrested

Kashmir traders marked the first anniversary of the 2014 floods in the state on Monday, by observing a shutdown in protest of the Centre’s “failure” to rehabilitate victims of the calamity. Several separatist and trade body leaders were arrested as police tried to foil the scheduled protests in the region.

6. Four Tihar Officials Dismissed, Prohibited Items Recovered

Tihar Jail authorities have dismissed four officials, including an assistant superintendent, for their alleged complicity in last week’s incident. A stocking full of prohibited items was recovered near Jail No 9.

Confirming the development, Tihar Deputy Inspector General Mukesh Prasad said that the officials were dismissed after their complicity was substantiated by an internal inquiry.

7. Assam MLA Booked For Assaulting Minor

Police have registered a case against Assam legislator Gopinath Das for wrongfully confining a minor girl in Kamrup district, Assam. The AIUDF legislator from the Boko Assembly constituency has also been charged under POCSO Act.

The authorities have, meanwhile, sent the minor for a medical examination. Kamrup SP, Indrani Barua, said the parents of the girl — who was engaged as a domestic help at the MLA’s residence — had lodged a complaint against Das.

8. Police Busts Noida-based Loan Fraud Gang Which Duped 522 People

Syed Qutubuddin of Hyderabad had lodged a complaint on August 28 in which he stated that he was lured by a telecaller to avail loan facility at a cheaper rate of interest.

A special team of Cyber Crime Police, Hyderabad, apprehended a notorious Delhi-based criminal gang involved in an organised bank loan fraud. The worth of this fraudulently procured money was about Rs 10 crore and involved over 500 victims spread across the country. The gang was busted by a team of Cyber Crimes Police Station of the Detective Department, Crime Central Station, Hyderabad Police.

9. Two IIT Profs Held for 2012 Bridge Collapse, Sent to Jail

Two IIT Roorkee (IIT-R) professors have been charged with culpable homicide and sent to jail. They were involved in the designing and proof-checking of a bridge in Tehri that killed eight persons as it collapsed in 2012.

The two teachers, Vipul Prakash and Vijay Kumar Gupta, both professors at the civil engineering department of the IIT, have been held responsible for the breakdown of the under-construction bridge over Alaknanda at Chauras in Kirtinagar, Tehri Garwal on March 25 that year.
