Congress leader and industrialist Naveen Jindal has been granted bail by a Special Court in Jharkhand’s Amarkonda Murgadangal coal block allocation case.
Minister of State for Coal Dasari Narayan Rao and ex-Jharkhand Chief Minister Madhu Koda have also been granted bail.
Former Coal Secretary H C Gupta and six others have also gotten bail in the case.
Naveen Jindal, Dasari Narayan Rao, Madhu Koda and 12 others were granted bail on a personal bond of Rs. One lakh. They have all been asked not to leave the country without the Court’s permission.
Senior public prosecutor V K Sharma had opposed the bail pleas saying the accused in the case are high profile industrialists and politicians.
He argued that most of the prosecution witnesses are their employees and could influence the witnesses or tamper with the evidence if released on bail.
The next hearing in the case will be on June 1.
The multi-crore coal block allocation scam was unearthed in 2012, when the Comptroller and Auditor General pinned the losses at Rs. 1.86 lakh crore.
