The Maharashtra Election Commission on Wednesday barred Asaduddin Owaisi’s All India Majlis-e-Ittehadul Muslimeen (AIMIM) party from contesting the state civic elections, NDTV reported.

The party, which had won 11 seats in the 81-member Nanded Municipal Corporation elections, has been derecognised for not submitting its tax returns or audit reports.

We will appeal to the Maharashtra State Election Commission and will abide by the norms in future.
Asaduddin Owaisi, AIMIM Chief

NDTV quoted a AIMIM leader as saying:

AIMIM is one of the 191 parties to be derecognised by the state election commission.
