The Egmore Court Magistrate, Gopinath, arrived at the Royapettah Hospital to obtain a statement from Ramkumar, the accused arrested in connection with the shocking murder of an Infosys employee, S Swathi. He was remanded to a 15-day judicial custody, police said.

Earlier on Sunday, he was taken to Chennai in an ambulance amidst tight security.

A special probe team and a team of medicos accompanied the ambulance.

To evade arrest, Ramkumar had attempted suicide by slashing his own throat when surrounded by police. Following this, he had undergone treatment at a hospital.

Earlier, Tirunelveli First Judicial Magistrate Ramadoss visited Ramkumar at a government medical college hospital, as there were some hiccups in producing him before the court.

After recording the case details, on a police plea, the magistrate authorised them to take the 24-year-old engineering graduate to Chennai with police security and medical personnel.

He directed that the accused be produced before a metropolitan magistrate court in Chennai.

Swathi S was found dead with injuries to her face and neck around 6:30 am at the Nungambakkam Railway Station in Chennai on 24 June, police said.

The incident is believed to have taken place when Swathi, a resident of Choolaimedu near the station, was waiting to board a train to reach her office as per her routine. It caused a flutter in the neighbourhood and the station, which usually gets busy around 7 am.

Ramkumar allegedly killed her after she resisted his efforts to befriend her. He had also reportedly told Swathi that he was in love with her, a declaration she did not receive favourably.
