Squalls, dust storms and heavy rains in the national capital upset flight schedules at the Indira Gandhi International Airport.
Until 2 am on Monday morning, 40 domestic and international flights were diverted to nearby airports due to bad weather.
Airlines urged the Civil Aviation Ministry to help institute a mechanism for providing weather updates, “well in advance.”
Prime Minister Narendra Modi, who was returning from Karnataka, after addressing a public meeting in Devangere, also had to make a stop over in Jaipur on Sunday after inclement weather prevented his flight from landing in Delhi.
