Kriti Tripathi was a bright and cheerful girl, who scored well in school and wanted to be an astronaut some day. On Thursday, the 17-year-old girl committed suicide a day after clearing the IIT-JEE in Kota, where she was living for the past two years with her mother.
According to a Hindustan Times report, her neighbours say that there were no signs that Kriti was suffering from depression or was under any pressure to crack the exam. Her neighbours in the Vasundhara locality of Ghaziabad remember her as an ambitious child, who shifted to Kota after completing her tenth standard from Bal Bharati School in Delhi. She had scored 144 out of 360 in the IIT-JEE (mains).
She had filled a number of forms for engineering courses around the country and was preparing for the same in Kota now. I spoke to her mother when she was here on Wednesday evening. She told me that Kriti was not happy with her score even though she cleared it. She expected to score more than 144 out of 360 on the exam.Kriti’s Neighbour
In her suicide note, Kriti wrote that she was not interested in subjects such as physics, chemistry and mathematics. She mentioned her inability to live up to expectations and her love for her younger sister, while apologising for the suicide.
According to the Superintendent of Police, Kota, SS Godara, Kriti addressed her suicide note to her parents who pushed her to study engineering in spite of her lack of interest in the subject. In the letter, she also asked her parents to let her younger sister, a Class 11 student, pursue whichever subject she wanted.Hindustan Times Report
