Another former bureaucrat has revealed that changes in the Ishrat Jahan affidavit may have been made at the political level.

According to Times Now reports, Former Under Secretary (Internal security) of Union Home Ministery RVS Mani, who signed both the affidavits in the Ishrat Jahan case alleged that he was tortured by SIT Chief Satish Verma.

The SIT chief burnt me with cigarette stubs. I was chased by a CBI officer.

In the interview, Mani said that he drafted the first affidavit. He said that he believed that those named in the affidavit were terrorists based on documents and papers on record.

However, for the second affidavit, Mani says that it was neither filed at his level, nor was it drafted by any of the two of his seniors. He added that the second affidavit does not contradict the first one. However, the second affidavit says that the first affidavit constituted facts based on intelligence inputs which were not of evidentiary value.

On being asked about the CBI inquiry into the entire matter, Mani said many people had chased him.

Had it not happened, my parents would be alive today. Both my parents, their age was cut short by two-three years and that’s a different matter. I was chased. Satish Verma was head of the unit of SIT and he was helped by two three cronies who were all engineering evidences. That’s what I can say. On 21 June 2013. Yes, Satish Verma burnt me with his cigarettes.

After GK Pillai, RVS Mani is yet another former bureaucrat who has come out hinting that changes in the second affidavit of Ishrat Jahan case were made at a political level. The accusations of torture by Mani also add to the gravity of the claims he has made and it will be tough for Congress to find their way out of this.
