The United Kingdom has decided to leave the European Union (EU) after a closely fought referendum. And frankly, like most things British, this too might get a little complicated. Fret not, The Quint tries to explain the Brexit outcome through iconic British symbols.

The UK aims to build taller walls around the country. A large support base of the ‘leave’ campaign rallied on the vote plank to keep EU immigrants out, especially from poorer countries.
Indian companies with big business interests in the UK will be hit. Jaguar Land Rover, Britain’s biggest carmaker, and a Tata Motors subsidiary, estimates its annual profit could be cut by 1 billion pounds.
British PM David Cameron wasn’t in favour of Brexit. Some of his party members support the ‘leave’ campaign and Cameron promised a referendum upon election. The Brexit vote proved to be an unintentional self-goal, and ended up in his resignation.
Made up of Scotland, England, Wales and Northern Ireland, the UK may become unstable. Scotland voted to remain in the EU, because that keeps the English in check. Without the EU, the ‘United’ Kingdom may come apart at the seams.
The referendum is not legally binding and can be effectively overturned. But that would be political suicide.
While the Britons may have already packed their bags to leave the EU, there’s still time for the bus to actually depart. Also, one of the decks is still occupied with those who want to remain, and it could take a long time to negotiate Britain’s withdrawal with the EU.
