Adorable or plain offensive? BDSM in public or new-age romance? Reactions to 30-year-old Nathan Riley and 21-year-old Xena’s peculiar relationship can go either way. The couple has been spotted in Staten Island, New York indulging in some ‘puppy love’, which involves Nathan taking his fiancé for walks on a dog collar with a leash.

Nathan insists that their relationship is normal and not at all abusive. Speaking to the New York Daily News, he says, “The leash and collar are symbols of our bond to one another. The collar is like a ring for most couples. They use rings, we have a collar.”  His fiancé meanwhile who has gone on to take on the name ‘Xena, Nathan’s puppy’, says that this is the lifestyle she chose to do and adds, “The first time I put on a collar I thought - Now I need to find someone for the other end.”

The couple is currently an Internet sensation after pictures of Nathan taking Xena on a walk in a mall went viral. There is also a video of her walking on all fours and dunking her head in a drinking fountain. Though the images have generated a lot of negative reactions, Nathan and Xena believe they never intended to get attention, this is just who they are.

The couple began dating two months ago after meeting online. Nathan, a truck driver by profession plans to get married to Xena (who is extremely happy with her ‘fiancé master’) on Halloween 2016. Bow wow to that!
