Macron is one of the frontrunners in France’s election, which will be held at the end of April. Part of his campaign is built around his commitments to addressing climate change. In his Twitter statement, Macron recognises that Trump’s presidency could threaten to undo progress on addressing climate change.
The US is one of the world’s biggest contributors to climate change. Industrial activity, car fumes and electricity production in America have pumped millions of tonnes of global warming greenhouse gases into the atmosphere.
But since his inauguration, Trump has systematically worked to undo climate change research in the United States.
If Macron wins the election, American scientists may get the chance to continue their work.
