Maria Qamar is pretty much a regular instagrammer who started off posting simple sketches on her page. But this Pakistani-Canadian’s followers keep increasing thanks to her ‘Aunty’ posters.

The sketches are essentially popular interpretations of the mindset of the “aunties” of the world towards kids of this generation and pop culture.

Maria is someone we might typically call a ‘desi’ and her drawings are mere sketches on a single-ruled page. She perhaps never imagined that the posters would strike such a strong chord with young people from South Asian backgrounds. We wonder if they look at these captions and say, “story of my life”.

Speaking about her work, Maria once told BBC,

They’re women in your family who gossip about your life for no reason. They pretend to be your mother or talk about you to your mother, about what you are up to.

Well, what about her own family you might ask. “No, they’re not so bad. There is no bad blood”, she said laughing it off. She is now turning these experiences into a business.

Here’s Maria’s instagram evolution and the reason that is getting her more and more attention by the day.
