India is a land of traditions. But it is also home to girls who are flag bearers of improvement, independence and change . The traditional culture can sometimes dictate your life on issues such as what you must wear, study, whom to marry and even how you should wear your hair. But young India knows, unlike previous generations, they will not bow down to dated ideas and live life on their own terms.

Supporting this wind of change, Pantene released this short film highlighting the power of choice. It shows that only girls can be the true decision-makers of their lives. But it’s not your run-of-the-mill inspiration movie that tells you what you should and shouldn’t do. Instead it just aims to inspire them by showing the endless possibilities that life presents and reinstating the power of their decision.

Pantene recognises that even young girls have the want to write their own story. It has a powerful translation especially in the world of hair. Young girls are usually required to wear their hair in tight braids and ponytails in school. What people don’t realise is that the powerful emotion they experience when they wear their hair open for the first time in college. We know it isn’t that obvious, but the power of open hair can truly enable them to create her them path. This comes out in the video with “yeh baal toh tumne khol diye, apne bandhan bhi kholo tum.”

The film features eight women across various profession, who are making a mark for themselves in uncharted territories or defying conventions - including professional athlete and LGBT activist Dutee Chand, who never gave up on her dreams even when others questioned her on every step. The video brings together the moving lyrics by ace lyricist Javed Akhtar, and the superhit song ‘Freedom’ by international star Pharrell Williams. Watch it here.
