In 2011, a case of human trafficking was spotted at an altitude of 30,000 feet by an air hostess with an acute sense of judgement which encouraged Airline Ambassadors International to train air hostesses on how to spot human trafficking.

Flight attendant Sheila Frederick noticed a teen with bruises sitting with a man on a flight from Seattle to San Francisco. When she tried to make conversation with the girl, the man interrupted aggressively.

Judging by her body language, Sheila assumed the girl needed help and came up with a plan. She left a note for the young girl in the lavatory saying, ‘if you need help, then write on this note’ and urged the girl to go to the restroom.

The teenaged girl wrote on the note, ‘I need help’.

Thereafter, Frederick alerted the captain, and when the plane touched down in San Francisco, cops were waiting to arrest the man.

This incident encouraged Airline Ambassadors International to train air hostesses on how to spot human trafficking.
