In her new book, journalist and writer Sreemoyee Piu Kundu explores the idea of being a single woman in India – an experience which is not always rosy. She recalls how when she was living in Mumbai, it was difficult for her to rent an apartment because of being single.

Recently, one of my uncles asked me, ‘Are you a lesbian?’ I found it weird that he would ask me this. When questioned him, he replied, ‘You are always with women. You are always writing about women. Why don’t you find a man?’
Sreemoyee urges women to celebrate womanhood and says that it’s time we own our sexuality and our destiny.
